On the opening lap, Daniil Kvyat hit the rear of Sebastian Vettel twice on turns 2 & 3, after which the German crash into the barrier and retires from the competition. Kvyat received three penalty points on his license as a result of the incident.
One of the biggest controversies of the 2018 Russian GP was when Mercedes enacted team orders to swap their two drivers positions, handing Lewis Hamilton the win and Valtteri Bottas would move to 2nd place for the race finish.
At the last lap of the 2015 Russian GP, both the Finns, Kimi Raikkonen, and Valtteri Bottas collided, forcing Bottas to retire and causing heavy damage to Raikkonen’s Ferrari. As a result, Sergio Perez crossed the chequered flag at P3.
At the start, Sebastian Vettel got a better start than Lewis Hamilton, but there was no room to overtake heading into turn 1. Later on lap 16, Hamilton made a move on the German at turn 3 and passed him into fourth place on turn 4.
During the FP3 of the 2015 Russian GP, the session was halted due to a massive 46G crash by Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard lost control of his car, going into turn 13, hit a wall, and went on to crash into the safety barriers.
